The last time I sat down with jewelry designer Anna Sheffield in her studio to talk about her metal based punk-inspired jewelry line, Bing Bang, was back in 2006 in her former Williamsburg, Brooklyn space. The contemporary collection, with its unorthodox pairing of sweet and tough was attracting lots of attention from buyers, consumers and the press.

With all the bright pops of color that have taken over our makeup-bag, it’s refreshing to see moody shades of burgundy, plum and burnt cherry making a strong statement this fall for lips. The dramatic sexy hue popped up all over the Fall 2012 catwalks (Donna Karan, Rochas (both above), Gucci & Bottega Veneta) and trendsetters like Kate Bosworth, Azealia Banks and Camilla Bell took this optimum fall beauty trend for an early spring spin at the Met Ball 2012.

“You can love fashion and clothes but that’s not necessarily always the path that you were meant to be on,” explains 30-year-old Ayeisha Mesinger, the designer behind the perfect-with-everything bag line Morgan Parish. Following years as a clothing designer working at labels such as Band of Outsiders, where she focused on menswear, Mesinger discovered her calling while searching for the perfect leather tote to suit her yearning for a bag that was functional, durable and, of course, cool.

If there’s one fashion era that is dear to our hearts, it’s definitely the ’70s, so when swimwear designer Lisa Marie Fernandez started popping up on our radar a couple years ago, we instantly fell hard for her stellar ’70s-inspired sense of style (not to mention her sporty-chic neoprene swimsuits). The former stylist’s penchant for belted high-waists, below-the-knee pencil, A-line and inverted pleat skirts, wide-leg trousers, slim-fitting turtlenecks, bodysuits, trench coats and knee-high boots make for the perfect urban style equation.

Modern femininity best describes Russian designer Alexander Terekhov’s superb Fall 2012 collection. Inspired by Grace Kelly, Terekhov’s pieces are romantic and pretty without coming across saccharine or precious. These clothes weren’t made to merely be admired, these are elegant and beautifully cut garments designed to be lived in. Against the backdrop of urban Paris streets, hanging out in the Republique neighborhood and across from one of our favorite places to get lunch (or brunch here in the States) on Sundays, Chez Prune, the leaf-printed maxi dresses, pencil skirts and silk blouses cut in discreet lines come to life in this gorgeous lookbook.

Based in Rome, Haitian-Italian designer Stella Jean masterfully blends her multicultural roots to birth a ready-to-wear collection that finds her juxtaposing African wax prints with classic colonial details, like the iconic stripped oxford men’s shirt. This unexpected union makes for a flawless tapestry of colors and shapes. These days there is no shortage of designers using African (real or faux) prints in their work, but what we love here are the subtle references to the silhouettes of the ’60s with the high-waists and full skirts.

Isabel Marant designs the kind of clothes that women want to live in. Since launching her coveted ready-to-wear line in 1994, it has come to define the cool and fuss-free approach to dressing synonymous with chic French girls. After discovering the label a few years back on international blogs, Aliya Armorer was hooked. As Armorer’s enviable collection of IM pieces grew, so did her fascination with the label and its designer.

Heavy metal has always been dear to jewelry designer Samantha Smikle’s heart. “I think metals are everlasting and so beautiful. I couldn’t think of ever designing without it,” Smikle explains inside her Bronx home studio as she slips on a couple of her gilded decorative cuffs, bracelets and rings from her megawatt embellished jewelry line TNEMNRODA (pronounced “nem-roh-dah”, adornment spelled backwards).
