We’ve always thought the idea, and I’m stressing the word idea here, behind interchangeable bags, the QVC handbags that come with different covers to change the look and style of the bag, was essentially a good one. Who doesn’t want two bags for the price of one? Unfortunately when it comes to execution and style, it’s clear interchangeable and cool are two words destined to never meet in the world of handbags.

Michael Kors embraced a retro state of mind for Pre-Fall 2013 that did not disappoint. The 1950s inspired collection featured a bevy of high-waist tweed and lace pencil skirts, angora sweaters, cropped cigarette pants and strapless sheaths to feed the sartorial needs of any wannabe Hitchcock leading lady. Although extras like the cat eye glasses, fur stoles and elbow-length gloves may be obvious references to that era, Kors stayed just shy of being too literal by working in some modern edge.

Not sure what the stats are for the number of sweaters given as gifts on Christmas, but I’m confident the number is high, very high. I’m also pretty sure that the majority of fugly Christmas sweaters in the U.S. always make its way to me in beautifully wrapped boxes that always succeed in hiding the horror that is neatly folded inside.
