Áslaug Magnúsdóttir, co-founder and CEO of Moda Operandi, the first and only luxury shopping site that allows you to purchase looks straight-off the runway only days after the shows, took some time out from her current hectic fashion week schedule to share her thoughts on the Spring 2013 collections, the stand-out trends and her personal shopping list for next spring.

The pencil skirt has long earned a reputation as a mainstay in the working women’s 9 to 5 wardrobe. A far cry from the revealing mini and boho maxi, the safe pencil has been deemed the more conservative of the skirt silhouettes, but judging from the recent NYFW and LFW street-style shots (and even as far last year’s shows), the pencil is now – dare we say – very hip.

The knee high-boot is fall’s comeback kid. Once a star player in every woman’s wardrobe, the knee-high boot was swiftly demoted to the back of the closet when the ankle bootie came around. When it comes to style, the mother of two and three-time US Vogue cover girl favors an unfussy look to take her through her busy day.

JADEtribe’s accessory designer Kimberly Hartman spends a lot of her time traveling. This summer alone the New York based and Texas-born Hartman was in Marrakesh working on her first ready-to-wear collection, attended market meetings in L.A., spent weekends in Montauk, Long Island, stayed in Thailand for a month working with her weavers and sewers to fabricate her signature boho handbags, and she also managed to squeeze in a trip to visit friends in Spain and Ibiza.

The Spring 2013 runways were full of an array of attention-grabbing shoes. High-impact heels, haute gladiator straps, cone heels, ornate wedges and the perennial staple, the stiletto heel, all came stomping down the runways. Designers’ new-season take on shoes involved re-imagining them in new silhouettes and dressing them up in special details. For instance, straps were an accent I was very excited to see many designers turn to for spring.
