Jason Wu Spring 2013

Jason Wu isn’t known for churning out femme fatal frocks, but for Spring ’13 the designer is exploring his dark side with a smoldering collection inspired by Helmut Newton’s provocative photographs. Wu deftly mixed leather, lace and lingerie (in collaboration with La Perla) to construct darkly feminine pieces. He sent models, including a surprise  appearance by Carolyn Murphy, down the catwalk in covetable leather sheaths, laser-cut hemmed full leather skirts (read about the full leather skirt trend here), bandeau tops, shorts and laced trimmed trousers. The adornments in form of edgy harnesses, laced dotted elbow-length gloves and lace ankle boots add to the drama Wu is bringing for next Spring. A high-impact ruby red pout and unfussy slicked down tresses compliment Wu’s mostly caviar black and nude strong collection. Leather and lace aren’t necessarily what comes to mind for Spring but leave it to Wu to convince us to channel our inner film noir heroine.
