White Hot

Even in the midst of this summer’s printed denim mania, the classic white jean continued to reign as the perfect neutral denim that works for casual and dressed up occasions. Despite its versatility, the universally loved white jean has been pigeon-holed as a summer bottom unsuitable to wear once the temperature drops. Even if archaic fashion rules mean nothing to you, in general white jeans aren’t the first denim style most reach for in the fall or winter. That honor is reserved for black and, of course, blue jeans. With summer coming to an end, we suggest you hold off turning your back on your white jeans and consider keeping them in rotation all year round. There’s no doubt that they look great with tanks and breezy blouses, but white jeans can really shine when paired with layers on top. The contrast of the light denim against heavier pieces, like slouchy knits, blazers, motorcycle jackets, trench coats, military jackets and ankle boots makes white jeans a wearable and chic option long after Labor Day. Here are some great examples on ways to easily transition your white jeans into the chillier months. We’ve also rounded up four great styles to help you nail the look.

Right: MiH Marrakesh Kick Flare Jeans, $186

Right: ASOS Skinny Jeans, $47.68

Left: Maje Bell-Bottom Jeans, $95

Left: Rag & Bone Mid Rise Capri with Hidden Zipper, $187
